Ohlins Steering Dampers

When shopping for your Ohlins products, you will likely run into 2 versions of the same part. One will be the "Ohlins USA" model and the other will be denoted as "Gray/Grey Market", "Imported" or "Direct Import".

What is the difference?

The USA Ohlins are imported to the U.S. by Parts Unlimited USA. USA Ohlins warranties are supported by any Ohlins service facility worldwide.

The "Gray/Grey Market", "Imported" or "Direct Import" Ohlins Steering Dampers, Ohlins Shocks Ohlins Forks, or any other Ohlins Suspension parts are imported by the retailer or their import agent. They are not covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

What physical difference is there between USA and Gray Market Ohlins products?

Since motorcycles in other countries are often built using different specifications, aftermarket parts are often built to match those specs.  Since you are spending a sizable amount of money on an Ohlins steering damper or other high end Ohlins suspension product (even if its gray market), you will still want to be sure that you are getting the very best.

Sometimes, in Taiwan or China, Ohlins products are actually duplicated and have Ohlins badges stuck onto the parts.  This can be very dangerous since the manufacturers are very hard to find if a problem arises and you can be sure that Ohlins will not help you if you get injured (or worse) while riding with counterfeit or gray market items.

The attractive difference in a Gray Market Ohlins steering damper or suspension product is price. The imported version is always cheaper and of course counterfeits are even cheaper.
